IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEWTON PARK CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT WORK
Bath Spa University began a major building programme in 2012 which will provide state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for students at our Newton Park campus.
The first phase of the development is a new academic building which is being built in the middle of the campus next to the Michael Tippett Centre. The construction site is fenced off with secure hoardings and not accessible to students. The new academic building is due to be completed by the spring 2014.
The second phase of the campus development will be new student accommodation situated at the very top of the Newton Park campus. Building work on this development will begin in the summer of 2013 and is due to be completed by September 2014.
Plans are also being made to refurbish the Students’ Union building at the top of the campus. The aim is for this work to be completed by September 2014, in time for students moving into the new accommodation. Various landscaping projects will also be undertaken alongside the building works to further improve the campus.
The academic building site is situated next to existing student accommodation. There will, of course, be noise and some disruption for students living near the construction site, but this is being carefully managed. The contractor working on the development is complying with the good practice of the Considerate Constructors Scheme to control noise and dust as far as possible.
Care is being taken to ensure that disruption is reduced, and any alterations to usual arrangements (for example, to footpaths around the campus, temporary access roads for construction vehicles, car parks and bus services) are well publicised.
Students considering applying for accommodation at Newton Park for 2013-2014, need to be aware that the building works are taking place next to the halls of residence. Students in residential accommodation at Newton Park should expect some noise during the construction period and full details of this will be provided when you are offered accommodation.
Living on campus has a range of benefits, but if you feel that the impact of building work would negatively affect you, you are advised to consider applying for other accommodation choices. There are a range of accommodation choices off campus which will not be affected by the Newton Park building work.
No teaching accommodation is being demolished, and normal teaching activities and timetabling will therefore be maintained throughout. Quiet days and no-working days have been arranged with the contractors for student registration, graduation, exams and auditions.
